Michael Carrick Expects More Goals Now From Manchester United Striker Michael Owen
Hat-trick could trigger goal spree for England forward…
Carrick expects a reinvigorated Owen to start showing the kind of form he displayed at his peak, as he settles into life at Old Trafford.
"It was a great achievement. Scoring a hat-trick away from home in the Champions League doesn't happen so often but it is just what he is all about," the midfielder said, according to Press Association Sport.
"We always knew he could do it. He has been doing it all his career.
"Hopefully now he can get on a roll and he will continue to score many important goals for us over the next few weeks.
"Strikers like scoring goals and hopefully it will give him an extra bit of confidence – not that he needed it."It is good for him to score but it is about what he is contributing as well.
"As long as we are winning and everyone is playing well, we are satisfied."
Carrick himself showed great composure and character on Tuesday evening, playing as the central defender in a makeshift back three, as Sir Alex Ferguson shuffled his squad to cope with the current injury crisis at the club.
"I have never headed the ball as much," he joked afterwards.
"It is not the physical side that is hard about playing centre-half, it is the mental.
"You need to maintain concentration and focus at all times. I just put myself in the right positions and hoped for the best.
"We rode our luck at times but, as a back three, I thought we played well."

Meanwhile, Tonde Chitonho has asked Thierry Henry to take Arsene Wenger back to the US with him!

Joel Peeperkoorn feels that Arsenal should rest their big guns in the second leg, saying: “There's no way we can beat Milan by five goals."
Jez Cook, however, takes a different perspective, singing himself back to positivity: “FIVE FOUR we're gunna win five four we're gunna win five four we're gunna win five four ....FIVE FOUR we're gunna win five four we're gunna win five four we're gunna win five four ...FIVE FOUR - just keep repeating it.”
Well, you have to admire his fighting spirit...
Incidentally, no team has ever progressed in Europe after losing the first leg by such a heavy deficit.
