Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien is in confident mood ahead of the Blues' Saturday afternoon clash with Manchester City.

"We have been playing some good football and winning games, and the confidence is high in the dressing room," the Ghana international told the club's official website.

"Nobody in there likes to lose, we are all winners and it motivates us to go out and do our best," said Essien. "We have big characters which you need for these games.

"It is very similar to when I was at Lyon and we dominated the French league. We all wanted to be winners, it was more or less the same as we have here at Chelsea, it is so good for the players."

The 27-year-old continued: "I don't know if I am at my best yet, I'm happy to keep fit and help my team win games for the moment.

"I think I can play for a long time still, as long as I can stay injury-free I can see myself playing for a very long time."
