Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp is planning a bid for Young Boys of Berne striker Seydou Doumbia, the man tipped to partner Didier Drogba in Ivory Coast's attack at next summer's World Cup.

Spurs sent scouts to watch the 21-year-old in action in Switzerland on Sunday, according to The Daily Mirror.

Doumbia has already scored 16 goals this season and helped Young Boys top the Swiss league.

Spurs are likely to face competition from Russia for the striker's signature. Both Rubin Kazan and CSKA Moscow have reportedly had £8 million bids turned down already.

The player himself would apparently favour a move to England over Russia.
