Gabriel Obertan: I Am Not Cristiano Ronaldo's Successor At Manchester United
French gun wants to do more but refuses comparisons to CR7...
The speedy Frenchman - who arrived from Bordeaux in the summer - is yet to nail down a starting spot at Old Trafford, but his few first-team performances so far have garnered many a plaudit.
However, Obertan has refused to be drawn in by comparisons to the Red Devils' former No.7, and remains dedicated to playing his own game.
"I'm not Ronaldo's successor," he told the press after a standout display in Wednesday night's Champions League defeat to Besiktas.
"I just try to be Gabriel Obertan and just work hard. There's no comparison possible for now."
Still, while the 20-year-old has impressed since shaking off the injury problems that curtailed the early months of his United career, he is determined to start imparting a more tangible influence whenever he plays.
"I tried to and want to do more. I've not scored yet or made an assist," he continued.
"I've had some good performances when I've come on, but I want to do more than that. I think I could do more. I really wish I could do more."
Naturally, as a player schooled on the continent, questions have been asked as to whether Obertan can cut it in the hustle and bustle of the Premier League.
But the youngster added: "I think it is better for me to play in England than France. There is more space and the game is quicker."
