John Terry, 28, will pass another milestone when Chelsea take on Porto at the Estadio do Dragao turf on Wednesday evening in the Champions League, as the appearance will be his 300th while bearing the captain's armband.

It is a feat that has not gone un-noticed by manager Carlo Ancelotti, who needed no second invitation to commend the man he decided to keep on as skipper when he began his tenure as boss of the Stamford Bridge side.

"I am happy because John Terry is a very good captain, not only for his technical qualities but also the 'professionality' and I hope that he will be the captain for a long time," Ancelotti informed the club's official website.

Terry added: "Playing 300 games as Chelsea captain is a great achievement for myself.

"I have played for a lot of managers and they have kept me as captain which is a great honour and I want to stay fit and keep Chelsea winning trophies."

Claudio Ranieri was the first to install Terry as the club's permanent captain, while subsequent bosses Jose Mourinho, Avram Grant, Luiz Felipe Scolari, and Guus Hiddink all recognised the England international's ability to lead.
