David Beckham Has Option To Buy MLS Club
'Becks' set to invest in the States...
MLS commissioner Don Garber has confirmed that England and LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham has the option of buying an MLS club.
The 34-year-old recently restated his desire to invest in a future franchise, owing to a clause inserted in his contract when he moved to California in 2007.
At the moment, the MLS boasts 15 teams. A Philadelphia side is expected to be added in 2010, while teams from Portland and Vancouver should follow a year later. Montreal is in pole position to field the 19th club.
"David has the option for our 20th team and that option can't be exercised until after 2011 or after he stops playing," Garber is quoted by the Press Association as saying.
"So we've got some time to figure that one out."
