Portsmouth Manager Paul Hart Refuses To Criticise Players After Stoke City Loss
Manager does criticise penalty taker Boateng however...
Portsmouth manager Paul Hart refused to criticise his players in the wake of their 1-0 Premier League defeat to Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday.
Pompey do, however, remain bottom of the table, with Ricardo Fuller's goal proving to be the difference between the two sides.
Kevin-Prince Boateng missed a penalty for the away side after six minutes and things could very well have been different if the former Tottenham Hotspur man had dispatched his spot kick.
"At the moment I feel very hard done by, although when we had a penalty, you expect to score," he told Sky Sports.
"After that I don't think he has had a shot to save so you have to say you have to come out with something."I couldn't [see them scoring]. I was comfortable. I thought our defenders were excellent, the midfield was superb, but we could have perhaps created a little more in the final third, around the box, but overall I thought we were in control.
"It's very hard to be critical of my players, I have got to say, because through thick and thin they try to win football matches and that's what we set out to do and it's very hard to swallow."
While he found it hard to criticise his team overall, Hart had some stronger words for Boateng: "I think you can be [critical] because the
goalie [Thomas Sorensen] saved it," he said.
"But he is our penalty taker and I think Kevin would have expected to score. We have to keep everyone up and get organised for Manchester United."
