Chelsea Manager Carlo Ancelotti: Michael Essien Is One Of The Most Important Midfielders In The World
'Carletto' holds Ghana international in high regard...
The Ghana international scored twice in the space of 10 minutes during the club's recent 4-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge.
The former Milan coach has consequently showered praise on the midfielder, citing his versatility, fitness, and consistency as the reasoning behind his analysis.
"I think Essien is one of the most important players in midfield in the world," Ancelotti is quoted in The Mirror as saying.
"He can play everywhere in midfield with the same result. He has shown a lot of consistency this season and maintained a good physical condition. He is very strong but he also has a lot of quality."
The Italian went on to give his youngsters a pat on the back, explaining that the emergence of Gael Kakuta, Fabio Borini and Nemanja Matic could deter the club from bringing in flashy imports during the January transfer window.
He added: "This match showed we are in a very good condition because we had a lot of injuries before this game.
"But our play was just the same. We put some young players in this team and in January if we maintain this condition, it is not necessary to buy other players. They are very good young players and I will use them in the future this season."
