Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz insists that his side must justify their worthiness of a Champions League spot by beating five-time European conquerors Liverpool in their own backyard.

The Eastlands club have experienced a slump in form that has seen them settle for a draw in their last five league games, but the Paraguayan international believes they can begin their rise in stature this Saturday at Anfield.

"People say this is a big game for City, to prove we are worthy of being called a big club," the 28-year-old is quoted in The Sun as saying.

"But this is also a big game for Liverpool.

"They'll look at us and see us above them in the table.

"Our main aim is to be in one of the Champions League places by finishing in the top four. "So we need to go to Liverpool and prove we can take one of those places they want to be involved in.
