Premier League powerhouse Arsenal have received some disturbing news on the injury front in the aftermath of Saturday's international friendly between Italy and Netherlands.

Highly rated forward Robin van Persie was part of the starting XI for the Dutch, but the in-form attacker was forced to leave the pitch after only fourteen minutes of play due to injury.

The former Feyenoord star went to the ground after a duel with Italian centre back Giorgio Chiellini and was carried off the pitch on a stretcher.

Holland coach Bert van Marwijk told Dutch reporters after the match that it doesn't look good for Van Persie, as the forward has probably torn his ankle ligaments.

Van Persie will undergo further examination on Sunday to clarify the seriousness of the ankle injury, but the Arsenal star is expected to be out of action for about two months.
