Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena has struggled to establish himself at Anfield, and it's no surprise that he was frequently linked with an Anfield exit in the summer.

Serie A side Napoli were mooted as the likeliest destination for the Italian – the player's representative, Federico Pastorello, has claimed that a move could still be on the cards when the transfer window reopens at the end of the year.

"The negotiations in August were real, but the problem was not only the salary," Pastorello told Radio Kiss Kiss. "Liverpool, in fact, didn't give us the green light to deal with Napoli. The two clubs were not finally agreed.

"What about January? He has played less this year and it is clear that Liverpool have to move him. If Napoli want Dossena, they know how."

Riccardo Bigon, Napoli's sporting director, refused to play down the chances of signing Dossena, who was recruited by Rafael Benitez for £7 million from Udinese in 2008.

Bigon recently told Radio Marte: "I like Andrea Dossena since he played in Treviso. It's early to say names and we do not yet have a problem on the left side thanks to [Jesus] Datolo and [Salvatore] Aronica."
