Tottenham Hotspur's Peter Crouch Hopes To Avoid World Cup Squad Disappointment

Striker hopes for plane ticket to South Africa

England's Peter Crouch celebrates his opener against the Ukraine at Wembley
Tottenham Hotspur striker Peter Crouch is eager to avoid missing out on a place in the England World Cup squad next summer.

The former Liverpool forward has been on the fringe of Fabio Capello's starting XI despite his impressive goalscoring record at international level.

Crouch has seen Spurs team-mate Jermain Defoe suffer such heartbreak as he was omitted from Sven Goran Eriksson's 2006 squad; a feeling he does not wish to experience first hand.

"I don't want to experience that, of course not," he said, according to Sky Sports News.

"Jermain was involved in the squad and then didn't go. I know from speaking to him how difficult that was.

"I don't want to suffer that same fate. I want to be on the plane."
