Carlo Ancelotti's men lead the standings, two points ahead of their rivals from Manchester.
"Chelsea are enjoying a spell of great form, while Manchester had started so so, but they are coming back. It will be a very interesting game," Capello told Sky Sport Italia.
"It will be interesting on lots of different aspects as United have grown. They have returned to being a team after suffering following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
"Chelsea are the strongest team in Europe though."
Capello is expecting to see a battle of wits on the bench as Sir Alex Ferguson plays his cards against Ancelotti.
"Both of them are very good tacticians. Ferguson's CV is incredible, but Ancelotti's is also impressive," added Capello.
"Ancelotti has done well. Italians always seem to adapt well to different styles of play. He has a good group and always gets the best from his players. He has created a good mix there."
