Liverpool Confident Fernando Torres Will Return Against Birmingham - Report

Liverpool are adamant that their star striker Fernando Torres will be taking to the pitch against Birmingham FC on Monday night, despite his well-reported injuries of late.

Torres flew down to Spain earlier in the week for a second opinion on his hernia problem, and despite sources suggesting that he has been advised to rest for three weeks, the Spaniard is reportedly determined to face the Blues and is willing to play through the pain barrier.

A decision will be made over the weekend whether the risk will be made to include Torres on the squad; and it seems unlikely that captain Steven Gerrard will be fit in time, even after taking another pain-killing injection this week.

Meanwhile, defender Daniel Agger believes that the Merseysiders need to find their feet in defence before any turnaround can be made.

“You get what you deserve in football and you have to look at closing the game down otherwise you get punished in the way we did in Lyon,” said the Dane to the official club site.
