Manchester City Must Turn Draws Into Wins - Mark Hughes
Citizens must be more ruthless…
Manchester City manager Mark Hughes is keen for his team to end their recent run of draws and start recording some much-needed victories.
City began the season in fine form, but have drawn their last four Premier League games.
That puts them two away from a club record of six draws on the trot and Hughes wants the run to end against Burnley at Eastlands on Saturday.
"The game at the weekend was a disappointment in terms of performance. In all the other games we'd drawn, I felt we'd done fine," he said, according to the Manchester Evening News.
"We did well at Villa, and at Wigan we got something out of the game in difficult circumstances when we were down to 10 men.
"The Fulham game was disappointing in that we didn't protect a winning position, but overall the performance level was good. But against Birmingham, we allowed ourselves to play a type of game that we don't want to play, and as a consequence, our performance level wasn't where we expect to be.
"Saying that, we still took something out of the game even though we hadn't functioned as well as we knew we could, so that's a good sign. We've come through a spell where we've played three of our last four games away.
"We're back at home, where our form has been good for quite some time, so we're looking forward to getting back on track and getting more points on the board."
City will feel that they have a good chance of ending the run against Owen Coyle's Clarets, who have scored only two goals on the road this season, despite some impressive home form.
"We had a similar situation ourselves last year (with away form), as everyone knows," Hughes added.
"We were able to get good performances and results at home, but it was beyond us for too long away.
"Thankfully, we've been able to address that. I'm sure Burnley will look at the game against us and view it as one that can help their confidence in terms of their away form.
"Burnley, to their credit, are very positive in their game. But if teams come to us and open up a little bit too much, then we feel we have the ability to exploit that.
"It will be an open game, we hope, because we feel that's to our advantage."
Hughes also had news on the Citizens' injury concerns. Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure are both expected to be fit for Saturday, but Robinho is still a couple of weeks away from a comeback.
"Ade's trained the last couple of days and Kolo as well. They've had a couple of sessions and they've not had an adverse reaction. The feeling is that they'll be OK for the weekend.
"Robi is out doing field-based work and, hopefully, will step up his training next week.
"It's a case of getting him fit now. He's not match-fit.
"He's got internationals next week, and the likelihood is that he'll have to meet up and get checked out by the national team doctors in Brazil.
"But it would be wrong for him to play."
