LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham has admitted that his sole motive behind the loan move to Milan is to boost his chances of travelling to South Africa for the 2010 World Cup.
The Rossoneri recently announced that the Englishman will enter into their fold for a second time - on a six-month loan deal - after spending the MLS season break in the European fashion capital last year.
As Three Lions boss Fabio Capello has made it clear that he will not consider anyone who is not playing at the highest level, the former Manchester United player revealed that wearing the national colours was the idea behind staying away from his family for an extended period of time.
However, the former England captain conceded that a move to the San Siro will have to be coupled with stellar performances for him to be considered by Capello.
"It's [the 2010 World Cup is] the only reason I am choosing to be away from my family for six months," Beckham told Fox Sports Radio.
"Being in the World Cup squad is not guaranteed, even if I go to Milan it is not guaranteed, but I need to do everything possible to give myself a chance.
"It's always a roller-coaster in my career - and it is going to be like that for the next six to eight months, but I am looking forward to it."
He continued: "The biggest thing for me is I go away and leave my family for six months. They come over and see me for a week every eight weeks.
"Anyone who knows me knows how I feel about my children, about my wife and my family and I hate being away from them. Being away from my family and my children kills me."
