Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has flown to Valencia to get a second opinion on his condition, following a series of tests at Merseyside.

The Reds' concerns over the fitness of their star striker has been worsened after the Spaniard flew back to his home country for a second opinion on a hernia condition that has held back the 25-year-old from giving it his all on the pitch.

According to a report in The Guardian, 'El Nino' visited a private clinic in Merseyside, following an appointment that was arranged before the player's appearance against Olympique Lyonnais in the Champions League.

Liverpool have so far played the waiting game on their most important players - Torres and Steven Gerrard, who is also nursing an injury - from going under the knife just yet.

The Spain international has maintained that he would like to postpone a surgery for as long as possible, as the Merseysiders are missing their talismanic captain Gerrard as well.

An extended period of strain could potentially see the striker being sidelined for a lengthy period of time, but the club have been handed a lease of life, as the international break that follows their game against Birmingham City will give them enough time to reassess the situation regarding their players.
