Everton's Mikel Arteta Suffers Further Injury Setback
Basque's knee problems look set to continue...
Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta's ongoing recovery from a serious knee injury has been delayed by an infection.
The Basque underwent an operation on his cruciate knee ligament in February and must now face a further procedure to clean out the joint.
"Mikel has needed to have a 'wash out' on his knee after doctors found an infection," Toffees boss David Moyes told reporters at his press conference today.
"It is a setback for him. However we can't say how long it has put him back."
Everton welcome Benfica to Goodison Park on Thursday night in the Europa League with Moyes' options still severely curtailed by a crippling injury list.
