Referee Mark Clattenburg Defends Alan Wiley From Sir Alex Ferguson's Criticism
Good decision making shows fitness concerns irrelevant claims Wiley's colleague...
Sir Alex made the allegations, roundly condemned by many in the game, in the wake of his side's disappointing 2-2 home draw with Sunderland.
He is facing punishment from the FA for the remarks. His 'apology' for the comments has also been slammed by referees' union Prospect who have insisted that it is no way adequate and actually exacerbates the situation by claiming that referees' fitness is a wide-ranging problem.
Clattenburg claims that Wiley's near-faultless decision making during the game amply demonstrates his fitness.
"Referees are just like players when you're in front of a big crowd. You're really up for the game," he said, according to Sky Sports.
"You up your levels. You probably run faster but you try to blank everything out because you want to get it right.
"Forget about the politics of Alan's fitness levels. If you look back at his decision-making in that game, it was practically faultless."
