Manchester United Confirm Ben Foster's Chest Injury

The goalkeeper's Three Lions withdrawal is due to injury, not poor form…

EPL: Ben Foster, Derby County - Manchester United (PA)

Manchester United have today confirmed that goalkeeper Ben Foster was left out of Fabio Capello's England squad due to a chest injury.

Many observers guessed that the United keeper was left out because of his poor recent form, but the Red Devils have revealed that that is not the case, according to Sky Sports.

The 26-year-old sustained the injury during United's 2-2 draw with Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Foster, who made some high-profile errors during last month's Manchester derby, was beaten to a high ball by Black Cats striker Kenwyne Jones for one of Sunderland's goals.

With Edwin van der Sar nearing full fitness, Foster also faces a battle to hang onto his spot between the sticks at Old Trafford.
