Jermain Defoe Believes He Can Be Super-Sub
Jermain Defoe may have found the net, but was in no mood to jinx his chances of starting against Croatia.
England substitute Jermain
Defoe may have separated England from the friendly opposition of Slovenia, but this did not fill the Tottenham striker with a great deal of confidence as to earning a place in the starting line-up on Wednesday night.
When asked on ITV whether he believed a partnership with both Wayne Rooney and himself would work, Defoe replied, "I don't want to sort of say too much. At the end of the day the manager picks the team."
Defoe, however, was not too disheartened by his goal scoring talents stating that although "Everyone wants to play [and] nobody wants to sit on the bench, at the end of the day if I can come and make an impact like I did again; then, I'll do that!"
With Defoe happily tip-toeing around negative words for his England boss in Fabio Capello he did speak highly of his training regime. "We've done a lot of training and I thought that showed tonight."
