Darren Fletcher: I Deserved Some Luck After Missing Champions League Final
The Scot feels he deserves a break after missing out on the biggest game of his career so far...
Less than a minute before Arshavin fired the Gunners into a first half lead, Fletcher looked as if he had brought down the Russian inside the box. Referee Mike Dean, however, waved play on.
Fletcher suffered the opposite fate last season against Arsenal in the Champions League semi-final when he was somewhat harshly sent off, missing the final against Barcelona.
The Scot felt that yesterday's decision not to award a penalty was correct, telling Sky Sports,"I went for the challenge and felt I got the ball.
"Maybe I am due a bit of luck, after what happened in the Champions League semi-final last season," he added.
"These things happen in football. I know I played a bit of the ball and a bit of the man, but in the heat of the moment you are not 100% sure."
Sir Alex Ferguson praised Fletcher as man of the match and Fletcher admitted he enjoys the fixtures against Arsenal.
"I enjoy the challenge of playing against Arsenal. I did my usual thing. I got about people and tried to raise the tempo of the game," Fletcher said.
"I put tackles in and tried to get the guys playing a little bit. It is no different to what I do in other games, but it sometimes gets noticed more in big games."
