According to the News of the World, research carried out by Chelsea's fitness staff indicates that Frank Lampard play on into his 40s.

The report points to the electronic monitoring systems Carlo Ancelotti, the Blues boss, has brought over from Milan, at the heart of which is a GPS device that keeps close track of each player's physical levels during training.

Lampard has long been admired for his stamina and knack for avoiding serious injury, and the 31-year-old's test results have been among the most impressive at the club.

As such, Ancelotti and his staff believe that the England man can play at the top level into his 40s, emulating Rossoneri greats Paolo Maldini and Alessandro Costacurta.

Lampard's current contract at Stamford Bridge runs until 2012.
