Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross is piquing the interest of West Ham United, Fulham and Liverpool, according to a report from Sky Sports.

The young English centre-back impressed as Stoke City climbed to a respectable mid-table finish in the Premier League last season, comfortably avoiding relegation.

An extremely sturdy defence was key to their success, and Shawcross stood out as the outstanding performer in the Potters' back line.

Liverpool are looking for a defender to replace Sami Hyypia, and are seemingly keen to acquire an Englishman, having been linked with Hull City's Michael Turner.

Rafael Benitez is a known admirer of Turner, but has been put off by manager Phil Brown's prohibitive valuation of the player.

The Hammers and Cottagers would only make a bid should Mathew Upson or Brede Hangeland make moves to Manchester City and Arsenal, respectively.

Shawcross began his career at Manchester United before joining Stoke City on a permanent basis in January 2008, having impressed on a loan spell at the club.
