Exclusive: Amr Zaki Talks To Goal.com
The Egyptian talks about Zamalek, Portsmouth, and La Liga...
Amr Zaki, in an exclusive interview with Goal.com, talked about his future and responded to accusations in the press.
Zaki rejected rumours was unhappy with Mido joining Zamalek, and didn't join training because of this.
“The reason is I had an injury,” Zaki said. “But unfortunately this is the culture of bad newspapers to create stories in order to sell more.”
Speaking about a potential transfer to Portsmouth, the Egyptian admitted he was in the dark about the move.
“I am only focusing on Zamalek,” he said. “I don't know anything about Portsmouth as this issue is between my club and agent and Portsmouth.
“It is the right of Zamalek to ask the amount they want and feel is fair.”
Malaga had made an offer for his services, but this bid was rejected by the club and Zaki wasn't too concerned about this.
"Zamalek rejected the offer as it was weak for both them and me,” said Zaki. "I prefer Premier league but I like La Liga. Anyway I am happy with Zamalek.”
FIFA had made comments on their website that it was felt that Zaki moving back to Egypt would kill his chances of playing in England again. The striker discounted such claims.
“I respect FIFA.com, but when I moved for first time I was playing in Egypt," he said.
Finally, Zaki spoke about Egypt's chances of qualifying for the World Cup in South Africa.
“We have to focus game by game, all games are finals," he concluded.
