Ancelotti, Cech & Malouda Happy That John Terry Will Stay With Chelsea

Chelsea received the perfect boost prior to Sunday night’s 2-0 win over Club America in the World Football Challenge, after captain John Terry put an end to rumours regarding a potential switch to Manchester City by pledging his future to the Pensioners.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti was mightily relieved that the stalwart defender will now be staying at Stamford Bridge, although he claimed that he always knew JT would not abandon ship.

“For sure I’m happy,” he told Sky Sports after the game against Club America, “but it’s not only me. He is happy, too, as are the club and the fans because he is very important for the team.

“I was sure he’d stay. I know John Terry, I know his professionalism and I always believed that his future was with the club.”

‘Carletto’ also assured that his in-form team are progressing nicely in the pre-season.

“I think we are working very well at the start of this pre-season,” he said.

“The players are improving in confidence as they play, and we played very well this evening [Sunday].

“But we still have to improve, as this is only the beginning. Now, we will arrive at tougher matches, but I think that we are ready to play.”

Goalkeeper Petr Cech also admitted that he was always confident his captain would remain in west London.

“I always knew it was going to happen,” he beamed. “The last time I was asked about this, I said that in terms of his behaviour and commitment, there were no changes, so, I’m not surprised.”

Florent Malouda, meanwhile, told Goal.com, “Am I happy? Yes, but we knew he [Terry] was staying already.

“Now, it’s just the confirmation. But everyone can now just focus on this season, so it’s a great thing for the club.”
