Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-Sung is set to be offered a new contract at Old Trafford, according to club chief executive David Gill.

Park has only a year left on his current deal after joining United from Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven in 2005.

Gill has confirmed the South Korean star will be entering into talks with the club over new terms in the coming weeks.

"We have had discussions with him and told him we are going to do it," Gill said, according to Sky Sports News.

"It won't be done before the start of the season, but it will be pretty soon afterwards."

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has also reserved praise for the tireless South Korean international.

"When we were scouting him at PSV, I saw him in two Champions League quarter-finals and we identified a player with great understanding of space," Ferguson said.

"His movement was always very clever - especially in attacking areas - and we felt we needed somebody who could penetrate in the final areas.

"Since then, he has developed his technical and tactical ability. He has done very well and become an important player for us."
