Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is targeting another African star in the shape of Obafemi Martins, after Emmanuel Adebayor departed for Manchester City, according to The People.

The Togolese forward left to join the revolution at City of Manchester Stadium on Saturday in a deal thought to be worth around £25 million.

It is now thought that the money raised by the Adebayor sale will be used to fund other Arsenal signings.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for Newcastle United striker Martins for the last year, and it was reported that Wenger had made bids for the Nigerian.

However, no such move has yet taken place, but the rumours still circulate.

The latest speculation to hit the headlines is that the Gunners are willing to pay a cut price £7 million for the Nigeria international.

The Magpies were relegated on the final day of last season, and this has led to much speculation about the futures of their top players.

Martins moving would allow a massive deduction from the wage bill at St. James' Park, and the club are reportedly eager to sell him to the Gunners.

However, Wenger has stated that the club have ample resources to cover for Adebayor, and he will not rush into any transfer this summer.
