Chelsea have allowed their young defensive prospect Ryan Bertrand to join Championship side Reading on a season-long loan deal.
The 19-year-old England U21 international becomes Brendan Rodgers' first signing as manager of the Royals and the two have previously worked together during the former Watford manager's time at Stamford Bridge.
Bertrand originally joined Chelsea from Gillingham in 2005 and has previously had spells on loan at the likes of Norwich City, Bournemouth and Oldham Athletic.
The deal for Bertrand has been completed just in time for the Southwark-born left-back to go straight into the Reading squad for their pre-season fixture against Kettering this weekend.
