OFFICIAL: Birmingham City Sign Lee Bowyer
After a successful loan spell last season, Lee Bowyer has secured a permanent transfer to St. Andrews...
Alex McLeish has made another signing in a busy close-season at Birmingham City by adding Lee Bowyer to the club's panel on a permanent basis. The deal has been announced on the club's official website.Bowyer has signed a two-year contract after impressing on loan last season. The midfielder joined from West Ham United in January, making 17 appearances for the Blues and scoring one goal. However, the Hammers chose not to renew his contract and he was released at the end of the campaign.
The 32-year-old gained notoriety for off-field incidents while at Leeds United, and had an on-the-pitch scuffle with team-mate Kieron Dyer at Newcastle United. He performed admirably for Birmingham in the last six months, and will hope to repay the faith shown in him by the Midlands club.
Bowyer is the seventh player to join Birmingham this summer, and Alex McLeish can now fully focus on his attempts to reinforce his midfield further.
Moves for Inter's Patrick Vieira and Newcastle's Joey Barton are still in the pipeline, and it appears as if there will be further signings at St. Andrews before the summer is out.
