Wolverhampton Wanderers were recommended as a club to their new signing Ronald Zubar by Arsenal defender William Gallas, the defender has revealed, with the former Chelsea player telling his fellow Frenchman that Mick McCarthy's side would be an excellent venue in which to further his career.

Zubar also informed The Birmingham Mail that he took counsel from several other players whom he came across with English experience, who all backed up Gallas's opinion.

"At Marseille I spoke a lot with Tyrone Mears and Bolo Zenden who have obviously played in the Premier League," Zubar explained.

"They both spoke very highly of the chance of joining Wolves. I’ve also spoken to William Gallas and Gael Clichy at Arsenal and Chris Samba at Blackburn.

"I’m still young but I’ve had a lot of experience playing with Marseille in the Champions League and with the French national team. I was also the captain at my first club Caen.

"I want to bring all that experience to Wolves and hopefully it will help me have a successful season."

Zubar agreed a four-year contract at Molineux over the weekend, and his family situation also persuaded him that the time to move was right.

"I’m very happy because my first choice was to come to Wolves," he explained.

"But I just needed a few weeks to think about it because my wife’s just had a baby and this was clearly a big decision in my career. For me the Premier League is the best league in the world and it’s been my dream for a long time to play there.

"So I’m delighted to be coming to Wolves. Hopefully I can play my part in making sure the team don’t concede too many goals and we stay in the Premier League."
