Manchester United Ponder Bid For Ashley Young

Ashley Young - Aston Villa
Aston Villa winger Ashley Young has emerged as a target for Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, according to The People.

The Villa winger has been rumoured to be leaving the club for some time now, with Chelsea also reportedly interested in acquiring his services.

United are looking to spend the £80 million they made from the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid, and have already spent £15.25 million of that on Ecuadorian winger Luis Antonio Valencia.

Young would become a replacement for Ronaldo and Tevez if he was brought in by Ferguson, as he is capable of playing in both midfield and in a more attacking role.

However, Villa boss Martin O'Neill would be reluctant to lose the England international, after the club qualified for next season's Europa League, and the Northern Irishman is looking to Young to provide goals from Villa's left-wing.

The Birmingham-based club could be resigned to losing the 23-year-old if a bid comes in from United, but O'Neill is, at the moment, looking to bolster his squad in time for the new season.

The club have already lost captain Gareth Barry to Manchester City and Martin Laursen, who was forced to retire from the game due to injury, but they are reportedly lining up a bid for Middlesbrough's Stewart Downing, who could arrive at Villa Park if Young leaves.
