Aston Villa Prepare Bid For Wigan Athletic Defender Titus Bramble - Reports
The Villans are pondering a cash-plus-player deal for Bramble...
Aston Villa are believed to be preparing a bid to bring Wigan Athletic defender Titus Bramble to the club.
Reports from The Daily Star and The Daily Mirror suggest Villa boss Martin O'Neill will offer around £3.5 million, plus teenager Barry Bannan for the centre-back.
After a promising start to his career at Ipswich Town, Bramble hit some inconsistent form at Newcastle United, despite making over 100 appearances for the club.
He has since impressed again at Wigan, particularly under recently departed manager Steve Bruce, and newly-appointed Latics boss Roberto Martinez considers him as part of a strong spine to work with next season.
Villa are in need of defensive options after the retirement of Danish stopper Martin Laursen.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Bannan, who plays in midfield, has appeared only twice in O'Neill's first team.
