In the wake of the departures of Roque Santa Cruz and Matt Derbyshire, Blackburn Rovers are finding it difficult to expand their striking options.

Chairman of the Ewood park outfit John Williams has admitted that the club have been coming up short when trying to find a proven Premier League striker and may have to look at other leagues to replace their missing edge.

"We have been looking around for a proven Premier League striker but it is proving a difficult task," he said, quoted by Sky Sports.

"We may need to look abroad and go down that route."

Williams went on to confirm Blackburn's interest in Chelsea youngster Franco Di Santo, but denied the rumours that linked Kevin Davies to the club.

"Di Santo is a player we are interested in but we have not enquired about Kevin Davies," he said.

"[Bolton chairman] Phil Gartside phoned me to clarify the rumours, not the other way round."
