Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp hopes that midfielder Wilson Palacios ends up being talked about with the same level of regard as Spurs legend Dave Mackay.

Mackay, who also enjoyed considerable success in Scotland, with Heart of Midlothian, and England, with Derby County, was a key part of Bill Nicholson's double winning Spurs side of 1960-61, members of whom Redknapp met at Tottenham's game with West Bromwich Albion towards the end of last season.

"If Wilson's anywhere near as good as Dave Mackay we'll be delighted," the boss told the club's official website.

"There are not many players in my lifetime who will come anywhere near Dave Mackay. Wilson is a terrific young player, a player we needed and I think he will only get better.

"They [the double winners] were fantastic, unbelievably great players. It was an amazing team and they will always be special players at Tottenham."
