Aston Villa Target Tottenham Hotspur Captain Robbie Keane - Report

The Irish striker could be on his way out of White Hart Lane again...

Aston Villa could be set to launch a somewhat surprising summer bid for Tottenham Hotspur centre-forward Robbie Keane, a man who only returned to north London in January after a disappointing half-season spell with Liverpool.

British tabloid The People reports that Spurs boss Harry Redknapp could be tempted to sell the player should a sufficiently large offer come his way, and Villa, with £12 million in their back pocket raised from the sale of Gareth Barry to Manchester City, certainly have money to spend.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill has been extremely circumspect when it comes to naming potential signings though, and has given no indication of his actual targets, despite being linked with a host of front men including Michael Owen and Peter Crouch.

Although Redknapp would apparently prefer not to sell Keane, he would like to pair Jermaine Defoe with a big striker. He will also reportedly sell Darren Bent and Roman Pavlyuchenko before he even considers letting Keane leave.
