John Carew is confident that his Aston Villa strike-partner Gabriel Agbonlahor will pose even more of a threat to opposition defences in the 2009/10 campaign than he did last year.

The 22-year-old finished joint sixth in the Premier League top-scorers chart, having found the back of the net on 12 occassions.

The 5ft 11in forward, who is currently with the England under-21 squad at the European Championship, had a fantastic start to the 2008/09 season but experienced a dip in form in the latter half and scored just twice after January.

However, Carew believes that the pacey striker, who has already won two full international caps, did enjoy a good season overall and will only continue to get better.

"Gabby was fantastic last year," Carew told The Birmingham Mail.

"He was one of the top scorers in the league. During the season, a player of his age will have ups and downs.

"
He will be a fantastic player and I think he had a good season again. He's been doing it since I got here and I think next year he will be even better."
