thumbnail Hello,

The boss of the senior team has congratulated the Under-21's for their performances in the European Championship in Sweden.

Following England Under-21's 2-0 victory over Spain on Thursday evening in their second group game of the European Championships in Sweden, senior boss Fabio Capello was swift to praise both Stuart Pearce and the burgeoning youngsters.

During the introductory game, the Three Lions defeated Finland 2-1 despite losing Michael Mancienne to a red card half an hour in to the first half. England then beat Spain by virtue of a quick-fire double in the concluding half last night.

Pearce today confirmed at a press conference that, "He [Capello] just said congratulations, [having] just watched the game and he's pleased as punch with the result, and obviously I'll feed that back to the players."

He continued, "They want Mr Capello's eyes on them and [to] see that gutsy performance."

Pacey Arsenal forward Theo Walcott was contentiously called up to both levels of national football, and was used by Capello during the World Cup qualifying games against Andorra, and also Kazakhstan.

The speedy winger, though, started the Spain game from the bench, and was only brought into action in the second-half. He provided the assist for James Milner's strike.
