Julio Baptista has reiterated his desire to remain with Roma for the forthcoming season, despite interest coming from elsewhere.

'The Beast' endured a difficult first season in Rome last year, scoring some spectacular goals but mixing the sublime with the ridiculous in some awful performances, none more so than in the Champions League against former club Arsenal.

Despite this, he has insisted that he wants to stay with I Lupi and prove himself in Serie A after returning from the Confederations Cup with Brazil.

"I am not thinking about leaving Roma," the 27-year-old told The Independent.

"I signed a four-year contract with Roma and I want to remain and help the team do better with respect to last season."

Roma missed out on Champions League qualification and will instead compete in the inaugural Europa League, in which they may meet Manchester City, the club after Baptista's signature.

The Eastlands outfit are eager to combine Robinho and Baptista up front next season, and with Roma in financial difficulties, were reported to be readying a bid.

Baptista, however, has continually denied rumours linking him with a move away from the Stadio Olimpico. As a result, it appears City will have to look elsewhere.
