Tottenham Boss Harry Redknapp Put Off By Luca Toni's Wage Demands - Report

The Italian's pay packet demands might dissuade the Spurs boss from making a move...

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked in recent days with making a summer transfer swoop for Bayern Munich's unsettled Italian international Luca Toni, whose future in Bavaria is in considerable doubt, following the signing of Mario Gomez.

Spurs are in the market for a target-man to complement the talents of pacey but diminutive strikers Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe, and had been rumoured to be in the hunt for Real Madrid's hit-man Ruud van Nistelrooy.

However, tabloid reports in England indicated earlier today that that move could be in doubt, after Redknapp and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy felt unwilling to match the Dutchman's considerable wage demands.

The Daily Mail is now reporting that a similar issue could scupper a move for Toni, with Redknapp apparently amazed at the size of the player's pay packet, and is reluctant to use such a significant amount of his wage budget on a striker who is unproven in the Premier League.

Toni, 32, and carrying a reported price tag of £4 million, is reputed to earn €5.5 million after tax per year.
