Everton Step Up Chase For Ligue 1 Duo

The Toffees are set to pounce for two of France's finest talents...

Ligue 1 : Blaise Matuidi (Saint-Etienne) vs Jean-Jacques Gosso (Monaco)
Everton are set to make bids for St. Etienne's Blaise Matuidi and Rennes' Stephane M'Bia, according to Setanta Sports.

Reports suggest that the pair are set to become David Moyes' major summer signings, despite the Scotsman's limited transfer budget at Goodison Park.

Matuidi is a highly-rated defensive midfielder, and is widely regarded as one of the finest players of his generation, and could leave Les Verts for a fee of around £8 million.

M'Bia is likely to cost slightly more than that, with club side Rennes saying the Cameroonian midfielder can leave if the £10 million price tag is met.

Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be big admirers of Matuidi, and the Toffees may find themselves in a bidding war against Spurs which would stretch their limited budget even further.

Spurs' north London rivals Arsenal have been reported as interested in acquiring M'Bia, with the 23-year-old said to be high on Gunners manager Arsene Wenger's summer shopping list.

Both players seem set to quit Ligue 1 for the Premier League in the summer, but with their destinations unknown as yet, the bidding will surely intensify as the summer draws on.

Both players are reportedly keen on a move to Goodison Park, with the main problem being the Toffees' lack of funds.
