Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers are facing competition for the highly rated Serbian midfielder Nenad Milijas, according to Setanta Sports.

The 26-year-old has now attracted the interest of Spanish Primera Division side Racing Santander.

The Serbia international has been chased by Wolves boss Mick McCarthy for some time, as the Irishman looks to strengthen his side ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

The 26-year-old midfielder was reportedly set for a £3 million move to Molineux, but this could now be hijacked by a last minute bid from Racing.

Racing striker Nikola Zigic has recommended his national team-mate to the Spanish side, and it now looks as though they are ahead in the race to sign him.

The Serbia international has also been attracting the interests of teams in Greece and Germany, as well as Wolves, and the race for his summer signature has hit fever pitch.

The Red Star Belgrade player is reportedly keen on a move abroad, and is looking to make a step up in his career, with England thought to be his preferred destination.

The defensive midfielder has been playing for the Serbian side since 2006, and has made 97 league appearances for the club, scoring 37 goals.

Meanwhile, Wolves are also expected set to complete the signing of American defender Oguchi Onyewu, who is expected to join from Belgian side Standard Liege.
