Aston Villa Will Have To Pay Above Market Value For Middlesbrough's David Wheater - Reports

How much Villa really want Wheater will soon be seen...

FA Cup: David Wheater, Everton - Middlesbrough (PA)
Aston Villa aren’t likely to have an easy time of things prising David Wheater away from Middlesbrough.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill has reportedly set his sights on £8 million-rated Wheater as he looks to make up for the retirement of Martin Laursen. According to the Express and Star, however, Boro are intent on hanging onto their main man at the back and will only be swayed by an offer they can’t refuse.

The England Under-21 defender has already vowed to stay on in order to help his side in their bid to get straight back into the Premier League, so Villa won’t likely be able to rely on the player to put pressure on from the inside for the proposed move to happen.

Irrespective of that, the Europa League hopefuls are said to be readying a bid of £6m plus Marlon Harewood in the hopes of bringing Wheater to Villa Park.
