Everton Off-load Nuno Valente And Andy van der Meyde

The two former internationals will be looking to resurrect their careers elsewhere...

Nuno Valente and Andy van der Meyde have officially been disowned as David Moyes looks to trim off excess fat ahead of a summer of muscling up for Everton.

The release of the duo comes as no surprise as both have effectively been dead-weights at Goodison Park for a long time now.

Van der Meyde, who won 18 caps for the Netherlands between 2002-2004, has made just 24 appearances for the Toffees since signing for £2 million from Inter in 2005.  The 29-year-old started firing parting shots even before he was axed, accusing Moyes of trying to destroy his career, no less.

Valente, a 34-year-old former Portuguese international defender, has been much more diplomatic about things. Like van der Meyde, he has had to endure more than his fair share of injury problems, but rarely, if ever, showed anything less than a professional attitude. The ex-Porto man’s contract was due to expire in the summer and he has already gone on record as saying that he hopes to stay in England for at least another year.

Following the two out the door are youngsters John Irving, John Paul Kissock, Scott Spencer, Eunan O'Kane and Cory Sinnott, as well as Segundo Castillo, who will be returning to Red Star Belgrade after the Toffees decided against making his loan stay permanent.
