Wigan Athletic defender Paul Scharner has claimed clubs from both the Premier League and the German top flight are interested in securing his services this summer.

The versatile Austrian has named Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Fulham as the English outfits looking to sign him, while Bundesliga sides Hertha Berlin and Hamburg have also been linked with him.

“Tottenham, Everton and Fulham are interested in me, just like Hertha and Hamburg,” Scharner told BZ am Sonntag.

“I would prefer to stay in England.”

Rumours of a transfer to Fulham for Scharner had surfaced previously, and with The Cottagers qualifying for next season's Europa League after a seventh place finish, they could be looking to make moves to strengthen their squad this summer.

The 29-year-old has been with Wigan since 2005 and after the departure of manager Steve Bruce to Sunderland, may favour a move to a club competing in Europe next season.
