Manchester United Target Le Mans' Yohann Pele

The Red Devils are now on the lookout for a long-term replacement for Edwin Van der Sar...

Ligue 1 : Yohann Pele (Le Mans UC)
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly targeting Le Mans' goalkeeper Yohann Pele, according to News of the World.

The French 'keeper is seen by the Scotsman as the ideal replacement for current Red Devils No. 1 Edwin van der Sar, and he is expected to make a move for him in the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old has also been trailed recently by Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, but United are reportedly the front runners in the race to sign him.

The Red Devils are expected to offload Polish keeper Tomasz Kuszczak this summer, with the 27-year-old desperate for first team football, and Pele is expected to come in and provide more competition for the number one jersey.

The Red Devils also have young English keeper Ben Foster on their books but, with few first team opportunities, he too is expected to leave the club this summer, with a whole host of Premier League sides' reportedly queuing up for his signature.

Pele has been at Le Mans his entire career and has revealed that he is looking for a different challenge. He has also said, in the past, that he would be open to a move to England.

The uncapped Frenchman has made 119 league appearances for Le Mans and is thought to be in contention for a national call-up some time soon.
