Wigan Athletic midfielder Olivier Kapo has revealed that he would like to return to his homeland after a poor run in the Premier League.

The former France international came to England in 2007, signing for Steve Bruce's Birmingham City.

He then followed Bruce to the Latics, and is now looking for a move away from the JJB Stadium.

The Frenchman does not see his position at the club improving after Bruce departed for Sunderland last week, and feels his first team opportunities would become limited under a new manager.

The 28-year-old made his name during his time with Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre, and has stated that France would be his preferred destination.

Speaking to L'Equipe, Kapo said, "I feel I am at a turning point in my career.

"I didn't play a lot last season and I was not happy at Wigan.

"I now want to leave and I would like to go back to France. I want to show that the Kapo from the Auxerre period has not been banished."

The Frenchman's contract does not run out with the club until 2011, so a free transfer does not seem likely, and a fee of at least £2 million would have to be agreed by any club interested in securing his services.
