Cahill's Icelandic team-mate sings his praises

Bolton Wanderers defender and newest England squad member Gary Cahill has been tipped to be an international success by club-mate Gretar Steinsson.

Cahill was called up to Fabio Capello's squad to face Kazakhstan and Andorra as a replacement for Rio Ferdinand, who was forced out through injury, and Steinsson believes the 23-year-old has a bright future under the England manager.

“He has done fantastically since he came here from Aston Villa,” said the Icelandic full-back, according to the Bolton News.

“Here, he plays first-team football every week and he gets confidence from that.

“He’s a great player and without doubt I think he will be one of the future stars of English football.

“It has been a privilege to play with him this season.”

Steinsson is on international duty himself this week, as Iceland are set to take on the Netherlands in Reykjavik tomorrow.
