Sulaiman Al Fahim Plans To Build New Stadium For Portsmouth

Pompey might well be on the move from Fratton Park in the coming years...
Imminent new Portsmouth owner Sulaiman Al Fahim plans to move the club to a brand new 50,000-seater stadium.

Al Fahim told Arabian Business Magazine that he plans to increase current stadium Fratton Park's capactiy to 30,000 before eventually moving to a brand new stadium.

Plans for the proposed Spinnaker Stadium, which was to be built on reclaimed land from the city's coastline, had to be put on hold by current owner Alexander Gaydamak because of financial issues.

It is believed that Al Fahim will not face the same financial restrictions and will sanction plans for a new home for the south coast outfit.

Al Fahim also revealed that he believed completion of the takeover was close after entering due diligence with the club, and that he believed the matter should be concluded "before the summer."

Recently relegated Newcastle United are not a target for Al Fahim, who confirmed he "does not have the budget" to buy them.
