Sulaiman Al Fahim remains on course to complete the takeover of Portsmouth, despite rumours linking him with the possible purchase of cut-price Newcastle United.
It had been suggested Al Fahim could be behind a middle eastern consortium reportedly interested in buying the Tyneside club, as he had been interested in buying the club previously.
But a source close to the 31-year-old has denied a change of heart and insists the deal to snap up the south coast outfit is still likely to go ahead.
"The interest in Newcastle was in fact several months ago." the insider told The Portsmouth News
"The news of a substantially reduced price and that interest has got people talking again, but there's not any substance to it.
"Portsmouth are in the Premier League and Newcastle are in the Football League.
"Anything else is people putting two and two together and coming up with five.
"They're scurrilous rumours. The doctor is still fully committed (to Pompey)."
Newcastle owner Mike Ashley continues to look for a potential buyer and is supposedly willing to sell the club for £100 million.
